UN Reaches Century Mark In Fully-Paid Up Member States
With its payment of $391,492, El Salvador became the one hundredth Member State of the United Nations to pay its dues in full for the 2005 regular budget, UN spokesman Stéphane Dujarric announced today.
Soon afterwards, Haiti became country number 101, with its $53,385 contribution.
Noting that the century mark was reached on the tenth day of the eighth month, at the twelfth hour – though who’s counting? – Mr. Dujarric sent a heartfelt muchas gracias to El Salvador and a merci beaucoup to Haiti.
There are 90 more countries that remain to be fully paid up. A http://www.un.org/News/ossg/honroll.html list of all those countries which have already paid their dues in full is available.
