UN Envoy Briefs Iraq's President On Support For Political Transition

The senior United Nations envoy to Iraq today held talks with the country's President on the ongoing political transition, including planned elections.
Secretary-General Kofi Annan's Special Representative, Ashraf Qazi, updated and President Jalal Talabani on the activities of the UN Assistance Mission in Iraq (UNAMI).
According to a statement released by the mission, discussions focused on the work of its Electoral Assistance Team and its Office of Constitutional Support.
Mr. Qazi and President Talabani also reviewed the Transitional National Assembly's ongoing discussions on the constitution, the statement said.
