Salfit villagers to march against "Ariel loop" of Wall on June 4
On Saturday, June 4, the eve of the anniversary of the Israeli occupation of the West Bank and Gaza, the Popular Committee Against the Wall in the Salfit district will host a nonviolent demonstration against the Annexation Wall and settlements that continue to expand and carve up the Salfit region. Palestinians from villages around Salfit will march with international and Israeli groups from Marda to Kifl Hares, two villages that are among the most affected by the pending construction of the "Ariel loop" of the Wall. Ariel, with almost 20,000 residents, is the largest settlement in the northern West Bank.
Meet at 9:30 am in the center of Marda, to leave at 10 am and march the 2 kilometers to Kifl Hares. When we arrive, participants will join in a public meeting with the citizens of Kifl Hares and surrounding villages about the current situation in the area.
Background:
On May 16, the Israeli Supreme Court lifted all injunctions stopping construction on the Wall around Ariel, on the land of the villages of Kifl Hares, Marda, and Iskaka, and the town of Salfit, and gave the green light to the building of the Wall 22 kilometers east of the Green Line. Work has already resumed in Salfit. The final Israeli Supreme Court decision about the path of the Wall in the Salfit region will be made on June 21.
