Palestinian human remains returned to their families in Gaza
The following was published as a press release by the ICRC delegation in Tel Aviv on February 14 2005
The human remains of 15 Palestinians have been handed over by the Israeli Authorities to their respective families in Gaza through Erez check point. The ICRC welcomes this operation, which was coordinated between the Israeli Authorities and the Palestinian Ministry of Health.
Following the repeated requests of the families, the ICRC has been asking the Israeli authorities to return the human remains to their relatives. In late November 2004, the ICRC was informed by the Israeli authorities that a number of bodies would be returned to their families in Gaza.
The ICRC welcomes the progress being made on this humanitarian issue. It encourages the Israeli Authorities to return the remaining bodies in accordance with International Humanitarian Law.
