Invasion In Qarawat Bani Zeid
The International Women's Peace Service (IWPS)
At 5am this morning the IWPS received a call from the Mayor of Qarawat Bani Zeid informing us that soldiers had invaded
the village on foot and were followed by three army jeeps. At the time of the call the Mayor indicated that the soldiers
were in the house next to his, causing much damage in the home.
At 7 am two IWPS members left for the village. At 7:30 am another call was received from the village saying that one man
had been killed. The IWPS team reported at 9:50 am that there were soldiers at the entrance of the village and they are
refusing anyone entry into the village. They demanded that the two women go back to Salfit immediately. They were then
helped by a woman and child to get to the Mayors house through the olive groves.
Currently it is reported that a caterpillar is approaching the village and the villages have indicated that this is used
to demolish houses. It is suspected that two men at the house next to the Mayors have been killed and the ambulance is
not being allowed into the village.
The Mayor has requested that the IWPS women remain in the village so that there is an international presence to document
the invasion.
The Mayor is in contact with the Al-Haq Foundation. The Mayor has also told the IWPS team that there has been a constant
presence of soldiers in the village and they have been there thrice in the past week. It is also suspected that some
villagers have been wounded.
