Destruction of Village Land in Jayyous

Mobilization in Jayyous against the Destruction of Village Land
Jayyous, Palestine- The people of Jayyous and the Jayyous popular committee of the Anti-Apartheid Wall Campaign are calling for a day of action beginning at 12 noon on January 4, 2005. Participants will protest against the creation of a new illegal Israeli settlement in village lands isolated between the Apartheid Wall and the Green Line. This new phase in Israeli land confiscation, under the guise of settlement expansion is further proof of Israel's intention to take permanent control of Palestinian lands west of the Wall, ghettoizing the Palestinian population behind the Wall and creating a permanent border.
Seventy-five percent of Jayyous land has been cut off from the village by Israel's Apartheid Wall. Over the past few weeks Israeli contractors have bulldozed over 600 olive trees in these lands for the creation of Nofei Zufim. If completed, this new settlement will definitively lock the people of Jayyous into a sealed Bantustan, deprived of their farmlands, livelihood, and space for future population growth.
Against this plan for the total demise of Palestinian life in Jayyous, the village has called upon Palestinian presidential candidates as well as politicians, prominent persons and nationals from as many countries as possible to come to the Jayyous municipality at 12:00pm on January 4, 2005. All attendees will adopt a seedling olive tree to be planted in the location where the olive trees have been uprooted.
The situation in Jayyous reflects similar situations throughout Occupied Palestine, where communities already devastated by the first phase of the Wall's construction are now being hit with even greater devastation during its second phase- the longstanding Israeli policy of illegal colonization.
