Residents of Beit-Awa March to Stop the Wall; Joined by Internationals and Israelis
Plan to Stop the Bulldozers When: Sunday 19/9/04, 9AM Where: Beit-Awa
Local residents, internationals and Israelis will march together to protest the construction of the Israeli Wall in Beit-Awa, West of Dura and Hebron.
The Wall is being built as close as 20m to the village boundary, cutting the residents off from their land, olive groves and precious water sources.
The goal is to halt work for the day while the villagers continue to press for the route of the Wall to be diverted to the Green Line, Israel's 1948 border. Construction has already started with the destruction of many olive trees and the appearance of heavy machinery.
Last week the neighboring village of Deir-Samet attempted to block the bulldozers in a non-violent action, and were met with Israeli soldiers throwing tear gas and percussion grenades. Many school- children were badly affected by the gas.
The International Court of Justice has condemned the Wall as illegal and has demanded Israel demolish all sections of the Wall that do not run along its borders.
