Permitted Not In Our Name Rally To Kick Of f March

Published: Fri 27 Aug 2004 01:58 PM
Permitted Not In Our Name rally to kick of massive march on this Sunday. Sunday, August 29
10 a.m. sharp
North end of Union Square (17th Street between Broadway and Park)
This permit was finally won for Union Square. Now let's keep fighting for Central Park permit.
As U.S. humvees roll through the streets of Najaf blaring "leave town or die," and the FBI interrogates activists and the NYPD selects dozens of protestors to be surveilled 24/7, everyone who cares about the fate of the planet needs to be in the streets August 29 to deliver a gigantic NO to the Bush agenda.
We invite everyone to gather with Not in Our Name at 10 a.m. in Union Square for a permitted pre-march rally. Join musician Steve Earle, spoken word poet Saul Williams, the band Outernational, religious leaders and others. Stand in solidarity with Arabs, Muslims and South Asians and with those under attack for refusing to go along with the government's murderous war and occupation of Iraq and repression at home. Together we will say the Not in Our Name Pledge of Resistance. And then we'll join the UfPJ-initiated
march past Madison Square Garden, the site of the Republican National Convention.
Bring signs and banners, earth flags and puppets. Most of all, bring your passion and determination to bring another world into being.
* War on the World - Not in Our Name!
* Detentions and Roundups of Arabs, Muslims and South Asians - Not in Our Name!
* Police State Restrictions - Not in Our Name!
We urge everyone to continue to call and fax Mayor Bloomberg's office for the right to rally in Central Park after the march!
"As people living in the United States it is our responsibility to oppose the injustices done by our government in our names." (From the Pledge of Resistance)
