Political Actors In Venezuela Accept UN Proposal For Dialogue
All political actors in the Venezuelan crisis have accepted a United Nations proposal for a dialogue, a UN envoy has reported to Secretary-General Kofi Annan.
Diego Cordovez, the Secretary-General's Special Adviser on Latin America, met Mr. Annan yesterday to discuss his mission last week to Venezuela to follow first-hand the latest developments regarding the recall referendum on President Hugo Chavez.
While in the South American country, the UN envoy held talks with representatives from the Government, opposition, media, civil society and other international players.
The UN will not be sending observers for the referendum, scheduled for 15 August.
