Stop the Destruction: The Resistance of Deir Qaddis Continues
[Deir Qaddis, Ramallah] Tomorrow, Sunday May 2, at 10:00 AM, the villagers of Deir Qaddis will be accompanied by
international and Israeli peace activists as they attempt to stop the destruction and confiscation of their land by the
construction of the Apartheid Wall. Tomorrow's nonviolent demonstration is a continuation of a series of popular
protests held in March and April to halt the Wall's construction.
Deir Qaddis, a village of 2,000 Palestinians stands to lose 3,500 dunams of land due to the Wall. The people of Deir
Qaddis depend on this land for its survival as the majority of it is agricultural land. In addition to this loss of
land, Deir Qaddis will be one of nine villages imprisoned within the enclave created by the Apartheid Wall in western
Ramallah. If the Wall is constructed as proposed by the Israeli authorities, Deir Qaddis will be separated from medical
and educational facilities located in the city of Ramallah and other areas of the West Bank, not to mention friends and
family members.
As part of a recent decision made by the Israeli Supreme Court, the village leaders of Deir Qaddis were promised that
the path of the Wall would be moved further away from the homes in the village. However, Deir Qaddis has seen no
alterations made to the Wall's path within the past two weeks as construction commenced in the area.
In order to protest the continued destruction of its land and livelihood, Deir Qaddis will again mobilize for a popular
demonstration against the Apartheid Wall. The village will gather in front of the Deir Qaddis mosque at 10:00 AM.
