BUKA, Bougainville (Sunkamap Times/Pacific Media Watch): The Sunkamap Times has been launched as Bougainville's new newspaper and is the first paper to cover the whole region.
It is published by the Information Office of the Department of Bougainville and is supported by the New Zealand Agency for International Development (NZAID), which has provided funding for equipment and printing.
The publishers say about the 24-page paper on their website:
"The establishment of the Sunkamap Times is a big step in restoring normalcy to Bougainville and is a positive sign that things are changing for the better
"In the run-up to an Autonomous Bougainville, the Sunkamap Times will play an important role in providing awareness and information.
"Now the people of Bougainville can receive information that is factual, up-to-date and relevant to them. It is also an opportunity for ordinary people to voice their opinions and concerns and discuss openly issues that affect them."
