IDF Activity in Rafah
Since last night (December 22, 2003), IDF forces are operating in the city of Rafah to uncover weapon smuggling tunnels. During the operation, terrorists detonated a number of explosives toward IDF forces and hurled dozens of grenades. In addition, four terrorists were observed readying a detonation charge against IDF forces. IDF forces fired at the terrorists, hitting the four, as well as an additional armed terrorist.
Two IDF Officers Killed in Clash With Armed Terrorist
Two IDF officers were killed this evening in a clash with an armed terrorist on the Kissufim Road in the central Gaza Strip.
Details of the encounter
This evening, an IDF lookout spotted an armed terrorist crawling towards the Kissufim Road with the intention of carrying out an attack.
An IDF force in the area clashed with the terrorist. An exchange of fire ensued, during which the terrorist hurled a grenade towards IDF forces.
Two IDF officers were killed in the clash. Their families have been notified.
Following the exchange of fire, IDF forces conducted a search of the area. A Kalashnikov assault rifle (AK-47), three magazine clips, three grenades and a vest were found on the body of the dead terrorist - which was clad in camouflage fatigues.
Funeral Arrangements
The funeral of Major Haggai Bibi, age 24, from Ma'ale Adumim, will take place today, 23/12/03, at 13:20 in the Har Herzl military cemetery (Jerusalem).
The funeral of Captain Leonardo (Alex) Weissman, age 23 from Afula, will take place today, 23/12/03, at 15:00 at the Afula military cemetery.
