Iraq: Security Council establishes new committee to track Saddam-linked assets
The United Nations Security Council decided unanimously today to establish a new committee to continue tracking the
financial assets removed from Iraq by persons connected to Saddam Hussein.
The need for the committee results from the expiry on 21 November of the "661 Committee" on Iraqi sanctions in
accordance with Council resolution 1483 of 22 May.
Today's resolution entrusts the new committee with updating the list of individuals connected to Mr. Hussein as well as
entities owned or controlled by persons acting on his behalf, or other senior officials of the former Iraqi regime or
their family members.
It also stipulates that the Council will consider expanding the committee's tasks to include monitoring Member States'
compliance with the prohibition on supplying arms and related materiel other than that needed by the United States-led
Coalition Provisional Authority.
