Football fans told not to travel to Turkey
British football fans intending to travel to Istanbul for England's Euro 2004 qualifier against Turkey on 11 October
will be refused permission to enter the country, the Foreign Office has said.
The Foreign Office is strongly advising fans not to travel to the match. Turkish authorities have put in place a number
of measures to prevent English fans from attending the match.
Only supporters carrying valid Turkish ID cards and match tickets will be allowed to enter the ground. Any English fan
attempting to breach the cordon or is spotted in the ground will be removed to a secure holding area.
Foreign Office Minister for Consular Affairs Baroness Symons urged supporters not to travel for safety reasons.
"We understand that every possible measure will be taken by the host authorities to prevent English fans from gaining
access to the stadium," she said.
