Georgia Green Party Announces Grand Opening for New Office Former Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney Will Attend, Speak
The Georgia Green Party today announced that they have confirmed former Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney as a guest speaker for their October 9th reception planned to celebrate the Grand Opening of the Party's first office and to thank those sustaining contributors whose monthly donations are funding the office rent. While Ms. McKinney has not yet announced her intentions for the 2004 election cycle, she has been the subject of a Draft effort by Green Party activists seeking to nominate her at the Party's 2004 Presidential Nominating Convention scheduled for Milwaukee, Wisconsin next Summer.
"While who will eventually carry our Party's banner in 2004 is a question for the delegates in Milwaukee next year, we welcome the Congresswoman's support for our efforts to build this Party," said Badili Jones, co-chair of both the Georgia Green Party and of the Green Party of the United States. "We as a Party can not wait for the 2004 Convention to begin our work. We have only ten months left to put our candidates -- whoever they may yet prove to be -- on the ballot for the 2004 election cycle."
The Party recently leased an office at the Little Five Points Community Center in Atlanta where it is setting up operations for its state-wide organizing efforts. The new office is located at 1083 Austin Avenue NE, Ste 203-A; Atlanta GA 30307. The Party's new office phone number is 404-806-0480.
"We have now launched a fundraising drive to contract for a Petition Drive Coordinator to put Green Party candidates on the Georgia ballot," said Mr. Jones. "We invite anyone ready for a political alternative committed to Green values to come down, see our new office, make a financial pledge to support this work, pick up your petitions and help us get on the ballot!"
Party supporters, the media and the public are invited to attend the October 9th reception, which starts at 7:00 pm.
