9/11 CitizensWatch
(Washington, D.C.) Over two years after the September 11th attacks, with the government's "9/11 Commission" nearly a year into their 18 month investigation, a citizen-led government watchdog and oversight group, 9/11 CitizensWatch, has issued a report on the status of the investigation. It is critical of both the process and direction of the Commission's investigation and the Bush Administration and concerned government agencies pattern of excessive secrecy and obstruction.
According to CitizensWatch co-founder John Judge, "The commission doesn't appear to be meeting a high standard of investigative rigor; by ignoring important areas of inquiry and witnesses, by not requiring testimony under oath, allowing administration or agency 'minders,' and not pursuing aggressive cross-examination in an open, public arena, questions naturally arise as to whether or not the commission is being serious and aggressive enough to get to the truth."
The extensive report by CitizensWatch addressing these concerns and the 9/11 Families 'report card' both come in advance of an interim report to be issued by the National Commission at a press conference on Tuesday, September 23 at the Woodrow Wilson Center in the Ronald Reagan Building, 1300 Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C. CitizensWatch will be in attendance.
"We are committed to holding the Commission responsible for fulfilling their mandate," said Kyle Hence of CitizensWatch. "A lot of unanswered questions remain and there is a growing chorus of voices and body of conflicting evidence that seriously challenges the official story. These questions must be answered in a public forum. There is a problem with lack of accountability and transparency here."
These critical reports come in the wake of increasing attention being paid by the media and press regarding unanswered questions and doubts about the events of, and responses to 9/11. Last night CNN broadcast incendiary comments made by former Secretary of State Albright. In Auguest Senators expressed concern over the classified 28 pages in the Joint Inquiry Report and family members are now dissatisfied with the course of the investigation and the answers to the questions they persist in raising.
Bill Moyers and Chris Matthews recently hosted Family Steering Committee members on their respective shows, NOW on PBS and Hardball on MSNBC. The Philly Daily News recently raised 20 questions of their own. Overseas in a Guardian editorial former UK Minister of Environment, Michael Meacher recently issued a direct challenge to the administration over the war on terror and the their response to the 9/11 attacks; and there was widespread coverage in Germany of a group of Americans living overseas called the 9/11 Truth Alliance who delivered an open letter to the American Embassy in Berlin with pressing questions for American leadership .
The 9/11 Family Steering Committee for an Independent Commission last week released a report of their own in the form of a 'report card' with bad grades and an "incomplete" for the Commission's investigation thus far. See 911independentcommission.org for more information.
