Iraq: De Mello's contribution to human rights will not be forgotten
It is with a deep feeling of loss that Amnesty International hears the news of Sergio Vieira de Mello's death. His contribution to human rights is universally accepted and we can only send our thoughts to his family and friends.
The bomb which killed him is an outrage and we continue to hope for the other people affected.
A full tribute to Sergio Vieira de Mello on behalf of the International Council Meeting of Amnesty International in Mexico will be issued in the next few hours.
