Schröder Says Germany’s Economic trend improving
In Germany there are increasing indications that there is going to be significant improvement of the economic situation
next year. In a comment published on Sunday, Chancellor Schröder said this positive trend will be supported and
strengthened by implementing Agenda 2010 and providing a tax cut a year ahead of schedule.
In a comment published in the Sunday edition of the Frankfurter Allgemeine on August 3 Chancellor Gerhard Schröder said
that "more and more economic indicators and forecasts by national and international institutes are pointing in the
direction of economic recovery." He noted that these "positive signs give cause for hope that from next year on the
economic trend in Germany will be on the upswing again."
Schröder went on to say that implementing Agenda 2010 reforms this year and providing an earlier-than-planned income tax
cut to companies and consumers next year will help to support and strengthen this positive trend, adding that this is
"in Germany's interest". Schröder called upon the conservative opposition not to undermine or block structural reform
and the planned tax cut with their majority in the Bundesrat.
