Sun Editor-In-Chief Dies Of Massive Heart Attack
SUVA (Wansolwara Online/Pacific Media Watch): The Fiji Sun's recently appointed editor-in-chief has died of a massive
heart attack at the Suva Private Hospital, Wansolwara Online reports.
Marcus Gonsalves, 50, an Australian, had joined the company on July 8. He died on Monday.
The Fiji Sun chief executive and publisher, Michael Richards, said the company board, management and employees were
shocked and saddened by the sudden death.
He said Gonsalves had made a tremendous impact in the short time he was with the Sun.
"The death of our new editor-in-chief has sent shockwaves through our newspaper. We are going to miss his genius and
commitment," Richards said.
Prior to joining the Sun, Gonsalves was a senior member of the management team at Fairfax Regional and Community
Newspapers in Melbourne, Victoria.
He had more than 20 years experience in newspaper publishing, having worked in reporting, sub-editing, design and
layout.
He had held several senior editorial positions in Sydney and Melbourne, Australia.
"His passing is a loss to the media industry in Fiji," Richards said.
Funeral details are still being arranged with his family in Australia.
