"World changing" is an idea at the core of Saatchi & Saatchi. We use it every day. It's a rounding up of our Nothing is Impossible spirit. It's what gives us our edge.
Knowing this made presenting the Third Saatchi & Saatchi Innovation in Communication Award in New York this week an even more inspirational event. http://www.saatchi-saatchi.com/innovation/
This year, more than any other, we have seen Ideas for the Award which present world-changing opportunities for humanitarian aid and progress. The winner of the Third Award is a true luminary and world-changing innovator - Professor Dave Irvine-Halliday of Calgary's Light Up the World Foundation. http://www.lightuptheworld.org/
The simple but revolutionary technology he has developed makes it possible to light up an entire rural village with less energy than required to power a conventional 100-watt bulb. It is already lighting up homes, and it is lighting up hearts.
Presenting the Award strengthened my belief that the role of business is to make the world a better place for everyone - by creating self-esteem through jobs, choices, opportunities and through innovations that reach into and transform the lives of people everywhere in the world.
Dave receives a US$50,000 cash grant and US$50,000 of Saatchi & Saatchi services, to enable the Idea to bring benefit to the greatest number of people.
Edward de Bono, a member of the judging panel since the first Award, contributed his own prize to Pat Peebles, for his amazing aircraft concept - the FanWing. http://www.fanwing.com/
With an inspirational idea beneath your wings the sky is the limit!
