Straw: We will 'strain every nerve to avoid military action'
The Foreign Secretary, Jack Straw, has spoken of Iraq's final opportunity to comply with the United Nations' resolutions in a press conference in New York.
He described a new UNMOVIC report on Iraq as 'a shocking indictment of the record of Saddam Hussein's deception and deceit. But above all of the danger which he poses to the region and to the world.'
Asked about the wording of a second UN resolution on Iraq, Mr Straw said 'of course we were ready to discuss the wording of that second resolution and to take on board any constructive suggestions as to how the process set out in that draft resolution could be improved.'
