Comments After Bilateral Meeting with the Foreign Minister of Australia Alexander Downer
Secretary Colin L. Powell
Hotel Belvedere, Davos, Switzerland)
January 25, 2003
QUESTION: Mr. Secretary, what do you think of the Swiss offer to hold talks here in Switzerland between the United States and Iraq in Davos?
SECRETARY POWELL: The foreign minister just made a reference to the fact that talks had been held here in the past and that was the extent of the reference but no talks are planned.
QUESTION: Are you willing to have such talks, Mr. Secretary?
SECRETARY POWELL: We have lots of venues in which one could hold talks. She made a gracious passing reference to the fact that talks had been held here previously and that was the extent of her comment. I thanked her for the offer.
