Baghdad, Sept. 25, INA
Iraqi Foreign Minister Dr. Naji Sabri has stressed that the violation of the demilitarized zones between Iraq and Kuwait represent flagrant aggression against Iraq, its people, territorial integrity and the U.N peace keeping process.
In a letter to the U.N Secretary General Kofi Annan, Dr. Sabri said the S.C should live up to its responsibility in accordance to the international law and the S.C relevant resolutions.
The minister also asked the U.N Secretary General to demand the UNICOM observers to carry out their mission properly and inform the S.C with these violations and the kinds of the U.S. and British warplanes that carry out these violations.
The minister said that the U.S. and British warplanes carried out 859 violations during the period Aug.17, 2002 to Sept,13 coming from their bases in Kuwait through its airspace and territorial waters to the demilitarized zones under the UNICOM responsibilities and that the Iraqi concerned authorities registered these violations.
Dr. Sabri elaborated that the UNICOM prior responsibility is to observe and inform these violations and to work on halting them immediately.
The minister concluded the letter calling on the U.N General Assembly to provide the UNICOM with proper equipment to observe these violations and inform the S.C to adopt the proper measures to halt them immediately.
