Hands Across The Desert, an E-Book written by Selwyn Manning has been launched.
It is subtitled "A Chronological Anthology of Middle East Reportage by www.spectator.co.nz news agency."
Hands Across The Desert details the build-up of Israeli forces against the Palestinian Authority from December 2001 to May 2002.
It examines the issues from both a polarised-political perspective and also presents eyewitness accounts from inside the West Bank, accounts made possible due to the advent of independent foreign affairs reporting - journalism that uses the internet medium to bring happenings virtually immediate and as they happen.
Author, Selwyn Manning writes: "In the course of reporting this Middle Eastern tragedy, www.spectator.co.nz received many emails and calls from people horrified at what they said was a pro-Palestinian biase being presented on the news agency. The correspondents often suggested that Israel was unshackled from a history of violence, untouched by the armed struggle it had embraced in its determination to gain a rightful identity.
"Firstly, neither I nor the news agency is anti-Semetic, nor pro-Palestinian. Contrary to the convictions of a few that anti-Semetism is rife, I suspect such accusations are simply a red herring, a diversion away from the attrocities that even those who subscribe to the Israeli offensive of 2002 would deep down admit to. If there is an anti-Israeli sentiment abounding, I suspect it is due to abhorrance fueled by an Israeli state’s campaign of political murder, assasinations, the aggressive removal of human obstables to achieve Cabinet sanctioned offensives, it is this that causes the horror, the anger.
"But the accusations continue to be levelled at the United Nations, levelled at news media, humanitarian organisations like Amnesty International, Red Cross, Human Rights Watch and individuals who refuse to accomodate the brutality orchestrated by a powerful nation against innocents of all ages and genders.
"The abhorrance of this is also levelled at those who send the young and impressionable to their suicide, with a cache of explosives strapped to the abdomin. Hamas and Islamic Jihad have claimed responsibility for these attacks. They employ terrorist tactics to fight an age-old enemy. It is desperate. At every stage acts such as these put the Palestinian ause back years with every blast these faceless warlords push the button on.
"With each blast, Palestinian children also die, due largely to Israeli Prime Minister, Ariel Sharon’s policy of one Israeli killed = 10 Palestinians dead. Such is the dire state of Middle East relations.
"This history of violence does not justify Israel’s “Defensive Shield” offensive into the West Bank cities of Jenin, Ramallah and Nablus. What went on in there was an indictment against 21 century international relations - in that one rogue nation, Israel, was able without restraint to commit crimes against innocent children, women, men.
"Israel has no more privilege than any other nation - it is not a promised land, nor are its people’s God’s own. It is the same as the USA, UK, Australia and New Zealand, Pacific Islands nations, Lebanon, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, nations of Africa, Asia, South America. I suspect it is Israel’s method that causes the majority of the world’s nations to say this is not right. Not hatred toward Judaism or Zionism, bigotry or prejudice. To suggest so is out of touch. And put simply an oppressor’s spin.
"That said, here presented for you is Hands Across The Desert. The works of www.spectator.co.nz." Selwyn Manning.
See why mainstream media corporations worry about the rise in independent reporting and suffer from 'turn-off-mainstream-news' trends among new-generation news junkies.
