Global Peace Condemns Government's Unlawful "Fishing Expedition" In Northern Virginia
(WASHINGTON, DC - 03/21/2002) - American Muslims for Global Peace and Justice (Global Peace) denounces the government's
raids on two dozen Muslim organizations and households in Northern Virginia. The government has said only that these
raids were part of the investigation into terrorist financing.
It is becoming more apparent that the government has long been on an inappropriate fishing expedition by disrupting the
work of Islamic institutions and individuals in the name of national security. Despite the Muslim community's full
cooperation with all investigations, there is a strong opinion that the government has gone too far, as now it is going
after some of the most prominent institutions and leaders of the American Muslim community.
Solidarity International-USA has compiled the following list of the organizations and homes that were raided on
Wednesday March 20, 2002:
Muslim World League, International Relief Organization (IRO), International Islamic Relief Organization (IIRO), Success
Foundation, International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT), Fiqh Council of North America, Graduate School of Islamic
Social Sciences, SAAR Foundation, SAAR International, Safa Trust, Mar-Jac Holdings, Inc. Mar0Jac Investments, Inc.,
Mar-Jac Poultry, Inc., Mena Corporation, Sterling Charitable Gift Fund, York Foundation, York International, African
Muslim Agency, Aradi, Inc. American Muslim Foundation, Heritage Education Trust, Humana Charitable Trust, Grove
Corporate Inc., Reston Investment Inc., Sterling Management Group, Inc., home of Dr. Jamal Barzinji, home of Dr. Ahmad
Totunji, home of Dr. Yaqub Mirza, home of Dr. Mohammad Jaghlit, home of Dr. Taha Al-Alwani, home of Dr. Iqbal Yunus,
home of Tarik Hamdi, home of Muhammad Ashraf, home of M. Omar Ashraf.
The latest action taken by the government is only the latest in a series of targeting Muslim organizations and
individuals without proper cause or evidence. The government certainly will not convince Muslims worldwide that the war
against terrorism is not a war against Islam while it violates the rights of the Muslim citizens and residents within
its own borders.
Global Peace calls on Muslims and non-Muslims alike to express concern over the government's behavior by contacting
elected officials, and by writing to newspapers, and encourage those who are in power to stop the neo-McCarthyism that
the American-Muslim community has become a target of.
