Commenting on the decision by the Commonwealth troika to suspend Zimbabwe from the councils of the Commonwealth for one
year, Foreign Secretary Jack Straw said:
"In deciding to suspend Zimbabwe, the Commonwealth has spoken with one voice. The message could not be clearer nor the
messengers more significant. We greatly welcome this decision which follows as a natural and logical consequence from
the damning reports of the Commonwealth election observers."
"I am deeply grateful to Presidents Mbeki and Obasanjo and Prime Minister Howard for their work and their commitment to
the principles of the Commonwealth."
