SUVA (Pasifik Nius): The Fiji Labour Party looks set to scoop all the Indian communal seats in the western division with two unofficial and five declared wins in the general election so far today.
The deposed Assistant Minister for Home Affairs Gaffar Ahmed won his Ba West Indian communal seat, defeating renowned Ba businessman Vinod Patel of the National Federation Party.
Ahmed polled 5538 votes and was happy with the outcome.
"I have to thank everyone who supported me and also those who didn't vote for me. I would like to work for everyone now that I am elected," Ahmed said on Fiji TV.
"I will be attending our caucus meeting tomorrow where we will plan how to form the next government."
Lekh Ram Vayeshnoi won the Nadroga Indian Communal polling 5856 votes against Dhuruv Sharma of NFP who polled 1986 votes.
In the Nadi Urban Indian Communal seat Amjad Ali pulled in 6169 votes while closest rival Dorami Naidu of NFP recieved 2649 votes.
Unofficial results at the Western counting centre put two other seats in Labour's favour.
Daniel Urai is the favourite to grap the Lautoka City Open seat, while Gunasagaran Goundar is tipped to be declared the winner for the Nadi Rural Indian communal seat.
Meanwhile, the United General Party's Mick Beddoes had his longtime dream fulfilled after he won the Western-Central General communal seat.
After three unsuccessful attempts at elections, Beddoes polled 2178 votes to defeat Kelepi Abariga of the SDL (909), Rollan Lilo of the General Voters Party (739) and SVT's Andrew Blake (125).
