Former military commander, former Prime Minister and suspected leader of
the terrorists Sitiveni Rabuka has stated that Fiji is not free from
political violence and disturbances.
In an interview he gave to the Fiji Times, he stated:
"We are still not out of woods yet. There is still potential for
disturbances in the normal law and order situation that we are now
enjoying. We are enjoying it in the shadow of tough military action and
until we maintain stability with respect for law and order rather than
fear, we will not come out of the woods. I am saying that we are not out
because any small group of determined people who want to create
disturbances can to it and it will affect the whole nation".
Rabuka's comments are similar to the comments of the Military Commander
Com. Frank Bainimarama who had earlier stated that the terrorists still
had the potential to strike back at the nation.
Meanwhile, the military has not commented on reports that some senior
soldiers can not be traced, and that they may be organising a camp for
terrorists to again attempt a takeover of the army and the government.
