The claim of the SVT and a collection of splinter political groups that it is championing indigenous rights and the
chiefly system has been exposed as a disguise for power grab.
Today's Fiji Sun reports the groups spokesperson, Esira Rabuno as saying that the group will accept a decision made by
the Interim President Ratu Josefa Iloilo on the Court of Appeal decision if the decision is in line with ethnic Fijian
sovereignty.
The condition laid to the acceptance of the decision is indicative of the fact that the group will defy a high chief if
the members feel it is against `Fijian sovereignty' as defined by the group. The group wants one of their members to be
the Prime Minister.
Members comprising the group, who had earlier endorsed the terrorists who had taken over the Parliament Complex, were
also party to the unprecedented abuse of another high chief and President Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara. Mara is regarded my
many as the father of the nation.
One political commentator states that the condition which the group has laid down is intended to bring a showdown in the
Great Council of Chiefs meeting scheduled for February over the Presidency. A major grab for control of the GCC is
brewing now. One newspaper columnist, who has of recent days written openly supporting the Qarase regime, has written
that the current chairman of GCC, Sitiveni Rabuka is already looking for a new job.
