CHARGES LAID IN BOSNIA SHOOTING
The initial investigation into a shooting incident in Bosnia allegedly involving a New Zealand Army officer and British
soldiers on 20 August 2000 is complete and four charges have been laid under the Armed Forces Discipline Act 1971.
The Army will not be commenting or speculating on the circumstances surrounding this incident until the full legal
process has been completed.
The main charge is of committing a civil offence namely causing grievous bodily harm with intent. There are two
additional charges of doing an act likely to prejudice service discipline, and a further charge of driving a vehicle
while under the influence of alcohol.
The initial hearing has now been adjourned to allow the defendant time to examine the statements from the initial
investigation.
“There is a correct process to be followed. Any further comment would be inappropriate” says Army spokesperson Belinda
Ryan.
