Former All Parties Hurriyat Conference Chairman, Syed Ali Shah Gilani has said that India's stress on talks for peace
will remain a deceitful slogan until it plays its due role to make the negotiations meaningful for solving the Kashmir
issue. In an interview in Srinagar, Syed Ali Shah Gilani emphasized that the real purpose of negotiations should be
aimed at resolving the Kashmir dispute which has been lingering for the last 53 years. He said that a long lasting and
ideal solution of the issue lies in granting the right of self-determination promised to Kashmiris by India's founding
fathers and the UN resolutions. He added that the other alternative is to hold tripartite negotiations to find a
settlement of the problem keeping in view its historical background, the wishes and aspirations of thirteen million
people of Kashmir and their valiant struggle since 1947. He said if the Kas
He added, the Indian leaders and the world fraternity should understand that we are peaceful people, we are nor
terrorists or war-mongers and we do not believe in the shedding of human blood Continuing, he said, we don't approve of
the humiliation of people, desecration of women's honor or torching of human settlements or a nuclear catastrophe. He
said that we strongly believe in durable peace which is possible only after a just and lasting solution to the Kashmir
issue.
Another APHC Leader Agha Hassan Budgami while addressing a meeting of Anjuman-e-Sharrai Shian in Srinagar urged the
world community to pressurize India to agree to tripartite talks for resolving the Kashmir dispute and ensuring peace
and stability in the region.
Agha Budgami paying tributes to the valor and steadfastness of the Kashmiri people said that they have wholeheartedly
supported the freedom struggle under most difficult circumstances and against heavy odds. While condemning the human
rights violations in occupied Kashmir by the Indian forces he called upon the Amnesty International, Asia Watch and
other organizations to take immediate notice of these gross violations and prevent Indian from committing such
atrocities against the Kashmiri people.
Widespread demonstrations were held at several places against the brutalities of Indian forces. People strongly
protested at Prang in Kangan, where the Indian troops, during a raid martyred Riaz Ahmed in a fake encounter.
Demonstrations were also held at Baramulla against Indian soldiers who tortured two farmers working in their fields and
left them bleeding profusely.
The Indian troops cordoned off Pirbagh near Srinagar and many areas in Chandora and indulged in wreckage and plundering
besides beating up the residents. A large number of villages in Handwara were also besieged where army agents tortured
to death a Patwari Muhammad Yousaf at Kolagm in Islamabad (Anantnag). The said Patwari had returned to the wreckage of
his house destroyed by Indian troops.
In a dramatic development, the Pro-Indian political parties in occupied Kashmir have started to stress the initiation of
concrete and meaningful process of tripartite talks between India, Pakistan and representatives of the Kashmiri people
to resolve the lingering issue of Kashmir. National Conference General Secretary Sheikh Naiz Ahmed, Congress Party
president Muhammad Shafiq Qureshi and President Peoples Democratic Party Mufti Muhammad Saeed in their recent statements
have emphasized that the Kashmir issue could not be resolved by use of force and Indian should hold meaningful dialogue
with the other parties to the dispute. They further stressed that Pakistan's participation in the dialogue is essential
for a lasting solution.

In Occupied Kashmir, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference has warned the world community that the Indian secret agencies
plan to carry out massacre of civilians in occupied Kashmir, coinciding with the Millennium Session of the UN General
Assembly. The objective is to attribute such a sinister act to Mujahideen in order to misguide the world public opinion.
This was stated by the Secretary Information of APHC, Sheikh Abdul Rashid in an interview today. He referred to
high-pitched Indian media blitz to the effect that Chatti Singhpura like massacre would occur in occupied Kashmir during
the Indian Prime Minister Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee's visit to the United States. He pointed out various Indian
conspiracies to defame the Kashmir liberation activists. These included, spreading communal hatred, massacres on
communal basis and attempts to give communal color to the Kashmiris liberation
Now that the UN Millennium session is about to open, the Indian secret agencies are poised for staging gory drama of
massacre to mislead the world public opinion. He recalled that APHC had given a forewarning that Kot Balwal jail, where
Kashmiri detenus are rotting for the past several years was about to be attacked by the Indian troops. Thereby, the
agencies sifted and implemented their criminal plan to Bhaderva jail. He said, the APHC wants to tell the concerned
quarters in unmistakable terms that the Kashmir liberation movement could not be suppressed by such inhuman acts. This
movement, he emphasized, would go on surging ahead to its logical conclusion.
On the other hand, the APHC has expressed grave concern over indiscriminate arrests and increasing incidents of arson by
Indian troops. The APHC spokesman, in a statement in Srinagar today referred to military raid on the house of a senior
and aged leader of Jamat-e-Islami, Maulana Ghulam Ahmed Ahrar in Shopian and arrest of his ailing grandson, Zia ul Haq.
The APHC spokesman also sharply reacted against burning of several shops by troops in town. He expressed APHC's
solidarity with the affected people.
Night curfew has been imposed at Chowkibal and Lolab in Kupwara district. People have been ordered to remain indoors
from 1900 hrs to 800 hrs. The local people held furious demonstrations against the curfew and construction of new
military bunkers which had not only turned the area into military cantonment but had made life of the people miserable.
The demonstrators took out protest processions and staged sit0in. The troops resorted to use of brute force including
lathi charge and tear-gassing to disperse the demonstrators.
In Tangmerg, the troops dragged out four girls from the shrine of Bab Rishi and disgraced them. The troops raided Saura
Medical Institute in Srinagar and subjected to severe physical violence, doctors, medical staff and attendants of
patients. Even patients were not spared. In Jammu, six Gujjars were arrested in Kot Balwal area.
Meanwhile, APHC Azad Kashmir Chapter has elected Muhammad Siddique Ganaie as its new Conveyor and Altaf Hussain Qadri as
Secretary General. The election was held at a meeting held in Islamabad today.
