Whales are making waves once again, with the Australian city of Adelaide hosting the annual meeting of the International Whaling Commission (IWC).
The meeting, from 3 to 7 July, will hear impassioned pleas from both sides in the debate on whether to lift the moratorium on commercial whaling.
It was imposed in 1986, to allow the great whales to start to recover from years of mass killing at the hands of the whaling fleets.
Most of the IWC's 40 member states want the ban to continue, arguing that whaling is inhumane, unnecessary, and deeply unpopular.
But two members, Norway and Japan, supported by a few other governments, say there are enough whales for a limited catch.
