1) UN soldiers in East Timor attacked at military post 22/06/00 (Associated Press) DILI - U.N. soldiers in East Timor
were attacked at a fortified military post near the Indonesian border on Wednesday, a spokesman said.
2) UN bows to pressure and gives Timorese more power 22/06/00 (Sydney Morning Herald) DILI - Under pressure to give East
Timorese more responsibility for their own affairs, the United Nations announced yesterday it would more than double the
size of the country's de facto parliament and make it all Timorese.
3) Former foreign minister Alatas questioned on Timor carnage 22/06/00 ('Detik') JAKARTA - Former Foreign Minister Ali
Alatas said that the Department of Foreign Affairs (Deplu) never offered the option of independence to East Timor.
During the tripartite negotiations, Deplu was always reluctant to propose such an option and never once mentioned the
word independence.

questioned Tuesday about human rights violations in East Timor during the last days of Indonesian rule in the

apparently migrants bound for Australia, was spotted Monday by U.N. civilian police in East Timor, a U.N. spokeswoman
said Wednesday.
