Violation of Demonstrators’ Constitutional Rights To Be Addressed in Federal Court Tomorrow
Washington DC --- In federal court tomorrow, lawyers will call for the return of medical supplies and literature to global justice activists, whose site was sealed off by fire department and DC metro police earlier today.
The Partnership for Civil Justice, a DC-based group of civil rights and women’s rights lawyers will be seeking an order compelling the release of these Constitutionally protected items.
Non-violence literature, personal items and irreplaceable medical supplies need to be returned to the activists immediately in order to ensure that the planned peaceful demonstration is well informed about civil disobedience, and medics can treat demonstrators effectively. Corporation Council, who represents the District of Columbia, has been informed that if medics are not able to help people on the scene they will be held responsible for any harm.
Judge Hogan will hear the case at 8:00 a.m. tomorrow, unless police are willing to release these items beforehand. Until now there has been no indication that the police are willing to do this.
