1) Soeharto put under house arrest, prohibited from leaving Jakarta 13/04/00 (Australian Financial Review) JAKARTA - The
Indonesian Government yesterday placed the former president, Mr Soeharto, under arrest to prevent his fleeing the
country to escape the corruption investigation into his financial dealings.
2) Portuguese Commander criticizes lack of peacekeeping naval component 13/04/00 (Lusa) Dili - With a Portuguese navy
frigate docked in Dili, the commander of the Portuguese contingent in East Timor said Tuesday he considered the UN’s
decision not to include a naval component in the territory’s peacekeeping force a security "deficiency."

8) No Olympics for Timor 13/04/00 (Kyodo) SYDNEY - East Timor is unlikely to take part in the Sydney Games because it
does not meet basic conditions for participants, a spokesman for the International Olympic Committee (IOC) said
