No. UN-EL-8004 (ITU)/09/235. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs
of the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh
Presents its compliments to the Embassy of the United States
of America in Dhaka and has the honour to inform that
Bangladesh has decided to present its candidature for the
member of the Council of the International Telecommunication
Union (ITU) for the term 210-2014, the election to which is
scheduled to be held in October 2010 in Mexico.
Bangladesh is a member of the ITU since 1973. Bangladesh
believes that ITU, as a United Nations specialized agency and
an intergovernmental public-private partnership organization
with a membership of 191 countries (Member States) and over
700 public and privat sector companies as well as
international and regional telecommunication entities, plays
a critical role in ensuring the efficiency and standards in
all fields of telecommunication on a worldwide basis and
assists its Member States in capacity building. Bangladesh
has been actively supporting the Union in fulfilling the task
of delevoping international cooperation in telecommunication
sector. Bangladesh attaches high importance to the work of
the Union in view of rapid changes in global
telecommunication arena. As a member of the IUT, Bangladesh
has committed itself to promote the implementation of the
instruments developed under the auspices of ITU.
In seeking its first ever election to the ITU Council, the
Government of Bangladesh wishes to reiterate its deep
interest and full commitment to the objectives of ITU. If
elected, Bangladesh, in close collaboration with the other
Member States of the ITU, will endeavour to contribute to the
achievements of the objectives of the ITU in attaining
development goals of all Member States of ITU. Bangladesh
will also pursue 'green telecom' compliance and mainstreaming
telecommunication in disaster management.
The Government of Bangladesh would deeply appreciate valuable
support of the Government of the United States of America for
Bangladesh's candidature to the ITU Council for the term
2010-2014.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Government of the People's
Republic of Bangladesh avails itself of this opportunity to
renew to the esteemed Embassy of the United States of America
in Dhaka the assurances of its highest consideration.

Affairs of the Government of the People's Republic of
Bangladesh Presents its compliments to the Embassy of the
United States of America in Dhaka and has the honour to
inform that Bangladesh has floated the candidature of Mr.
Muhammad A. Muhith, Director General of the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs of the Government of Bangladesh, and
ex-Minister (Political) and a delegate to the Fifth Committee
of the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the United nations,
for the membership to the Advisory Committee on the
Administrative and Budgetary Questions (ACABQ) for the term
2011-2013, the election to which is scheduled to be held in
October/November 2010 in New York. A copy of the CV of Mr.
Muhith is enclosed.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has further the honour to
inform that this is the first time Bangladesh is running for
the ACABQ and if elected, Mr. uhith will strive to contribute
to the work of ACABQ based on his long experience in the
Fifth Committee.
The Government of Bangladesh would highly appreciate the
valuable support of the Government of the United States of
America to the above-mentioned candidature of Bangladesh.
