SUBJECT: TFHA01: BURMA HAS NO CURRENT PLANS TO ASSIST HAITI
REF: STATE 4854
1. (SBU) The Government of Burma sent a condolence letter
to the Government of Haiti after the earthquake; but,
according to MOFA DG for Political Affairs Kyaw Tin, nothing
further is in the works. The CDA phoned Kyaw Tin to offer
USG facilitation assistance if the GOB has a donation in mind
(per reftel). The DG noted that some other Southeast Asian
governments have reportedly offered Haiti assistance, which
the CDA confirmed. The DG said he would check with the
Foreign Minister and perhaps with other ministries; but,
again, as of now, Burma has no plans to make a donation.
