SUBJECT: Niger: Same Sex Demarche Delivered

1. (U) Ambassador Allen delivered reftel demarche to Government of
Niger (GON) Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Mindaoudou
on January 13 during her departure call.
2. (SBU) The FM informed the Ambassador that the GON would have no
difficulty accrediting same-sex partners of U.S. Government
personnel, but stated that there likely would be problems socially.
She added that Nigerien society is very conservative and not easily
accepting of different lifestyles, remaining close to long-held
traditions.
