1. (SBU) Indonesian Foreign Minister Natalegawa wants to meet
Secretary Clinton on the margins of the January 28 Afghanistan
Ministerial Conference in London to discuss how to make President
Obama's March visit to Indonesia a success. Natalegawa told
visiting NSC Senior Director for Global Engagement Pradeep
Ramamurthy and Ambassador Hume that both sides must wrap up pending
issues before the end of February. This would allow our two
Presidents to have a strategic discussion about our bilateral
relationship during President Obama's visit.
2. (SBU) Post will provide septel background information and
suggested talking points for five key issues that should be resolved
before the President's visit: engagement with KOPASSUS;
establishment of a joint medical research center with continued
Naval presence; conclusion of a Science and Technology Agreement;
Indonesian training for the Afghan police; and signature of an OPIC
investment incentive agreement.
