SUBJECT: UPDATE ON PKK VIOLENCE (JANUARY 8-15, 2010)

1. (SBU) This is another in a series of weekly reports on PKK
violence in Turkey. Our primary source is the Turkish General Staff
(TGS) website, which documents contacts and clashes with the PKK, as
well as casualties incurred.
2. (U) During January 8-15, no security official was killed or
injured. The total number of security force casualties for the year
through January 15, is zero killed and zero injured.
3. (U) During the same period, one PKKer was captured in Hatay
province on January 15, and two surrendered in Sirnak province on
January 12. According to official TGS website figures, through the
second week of January, the number of PKK militants killed so far
this year is zero, the number of those captured is four. The number
of those who surrendered is three.
4. (U) During the reporting period two civilians were injured, one
due to an unidentified explosion in Bingol province on Jan 10 and
the other because of an IED in Mardin province on Jan 12. Through
the second week of January, the number of civilians injured for the
