1. (SBU) Per reftel request, Econoff forwarded a copy of the
Secretary's letter on food security to Foreign Minister Kasit
Piromya on October 22. Econoff also conveyed reftel points on
the US and UN proposal to Chulamanee Chartsuwan, Director of
International Economic Policy at the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs.
2. (SBU) While recognizing the need for a response prior to
the World Food Summit in Rome, Director Chulamanee requested
more time to review the USG materials and to coordinate an
official response with the Thai Ministry of Agriculture and
Cooperatives. We will continue to engage with them on the
proposal and will forward any updates on Thailand's position
septel.
