1. The United Mission to the African Union (USAU) has received the
following letter addressed from the AU Commission Chairperson Jean
Ping to President Obama on October 26. Original follows by pouch.
BEGIN TEXT:
Mr. President,
I was very pleased to learn that you had been awarded the Nobel
Peace Prize for this year.
On behalf of the African Union Commission and on my own behalf, I
would like to convey to you and the American people our hearty
congratulations.
This prestigious award is in recognition of your unwavering
commitment and tireless efforts to strengthening dialogue amongst
peoples and bringing them closer.
In these difficult times, it also sends a message of hope,
encouragement and support to all those who work for peace, justice
and security around the world.
The African Union Commission wishes to reiterate its willingness to
contribute actively to all initiatives to achieve these noble
goals.
Please accept, Mr. President, the assurances of our highest
consideration and esteem.
