1. (U) On September 11, PolOff delivered to Ministry of
Foreign Affairs, International Organizations and Conferences
Department, Human Rights Affairs Division Deputy Director Yao
Shaojun reftel points on U.S. priorities for the upcoming
session of the UN Human Rights Council (HRC). Yao noted he
would depart Beijing September 12, along with other MFA IO HR
Division colleagues, to participate in the UNHRC session.
Yao thanked the U.S. for the information but offered no
substantive response other than that "there may be some areas
of consensus," while other questions will "need more
discussion in Geneva." He said he would also convey the
information on U.S. priorities to the Chinese mission in
Geneva.
