1. (SBU) Head of State, Senior General Than Shwe, does not
plan to attend the UN General Assembly.
2. (SBU) According to an August 20 diplomatic note from the
Burmese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, received on August 23,
Burmese Prime Minister General Thein Sein will lead Burma's
delegation to the 64th UN General Assembly. Thein Sein plans
to arrive on September 27. We do not yet know if he will
travel with his spouse. No interpretation is required.
3. (SBU) According to Diplomatic notes dated July 16 and
August 20, Burmese Foreign Minister Nyan Win and Minister of
Science and Technology U Thaung will attend the UN General
Assembly. They will be accompanied by the following senior
officials:
--Deputy Attorney General Dr. Tun Shin;
--Permanent Representative to the UN Than Swe (New York);
--Permanent Representative to the UN Wunna Maung Lwin
(Geneva);
--Ambassador Nay Win (London);
--Ambassador Saw Hla Min (Paris);
--Ambassador Thaung Tun (Brussels);
--Kyaw Kyaw, Director-General, MOFA Protocol Division;
--Thant Kyaw, Director-General, MOFA International
Organizations and Economic Department; and
--Kyaw Tin, Director-General, MOFA Political Department.
4. (U) To date, there are no requests for spousal travel or
for interpretation.
