1. This is an action request. Please see paragraph 3.
2. In response to reftel, Hyunghwa Cho of the Security and
Counter-Terrorism Cooperation Division within the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs and Trade informed poloff on December 31 that
the ROKG will send the following two representatives to the
inaugural meeting of the Contact Group on Somali Piracy
proposed for January 13-14, 2009 in New York City: Gabriel
OH, Ambassador for Overseas Koreans and Consular Affairs, and
International Counter-Terrorism Cooperation (who will be head
of delegation); and Hyunghwa CHO, Second Secretary, Security
and Counter-Terrorism Cooperation Division within the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MOFAT).
3. The ROKG requested a prompt response to the following
questions.
-- Can the ROKG send one more representative to the meeting?
The ROKG would like to have an individual from the division
responsible for dispatching the Korean naval vessel to the
Somali coast attend the meeting.
-- The ROKG would appreciate receiving any documents related
to the meeting.
