SUBJECT: SWEDISH RESPONSE: ASSISTANCE TO GEORGIA FOLLOWING
CONFLICT WITH RUSSIA

On October 1, Katja Salsback, Desk Officer, Department for
Assistance to Commonwealth of Independent States Countries,
the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs, told Deputy
Economic Counselor that Sweden has provided some $13.9
million to Georgia in bilateral assistance to Georgia in
2008, in addition to the EU assistance which Sweden
participates in. Salsback commented that the level of
assistance for reconstruction and economic support for 2009
will remain at $13.9 million, but will then increase to $20.8
million in 2010. Sweden has also provided $4.2 million in
crisis-related humanitarian assistance in 2008 to date. In
2009, Sweden will begin developing a new assistance strategy
for reconstruction and economic support for Georgia. Post
