SUBJECT: DIPLOMATIC NOTE ANNOUNCES CHILEAN CANDIDATE FOR PRESIDENCY
OF INTERPOL EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
1. On August 5, Post received Diplomatic Note number 250 dated July
29, from the Ministry of Foreign Relations reiterating Chile's
candidate for the Presidency of the INTERPOL Executive Committee.
Paragraph 2 contains Post's informal translation of diplomatic note
250.
2. The Ministry of Foreign Relations - Multilateral Policy
Directorate - presents its compliments to the Embassy of the United
States of America, and has the honor to refer to circular note 117,
dated April 15 of this year, which informs the Embassy that the
Government of Chile has decided to present the candidacy of Arturo
Jose Herrera Verdugo, Director General of the Investigative Police,
for the Presidency of INTERPOL's Executive Committee. The elections
are to take place October 7-10 during the INTERPOL General Assembly,
in St. Petersburg.
Chile believes that Mr. Herrera's election to the Presidency of the
Executive Committee would permit him to contribute to the
fulfillment of the Organization's objectives. For further
information, attached is a brochure containing his commitments to
consolidating international police cooperation.
The Ministry of Foreign Relations - Directorate of Multilateral
Policy - appreciates the consideration of support for this request
and avails itself of this opportunity to renew to the Embassy of the
United States of America the assurances of its highest and most
distinguished consideration.
