SUBJECT: BANGLADESH KEEPING A "LOW PROFILE" ON THE
RUSSIA-GEORGIA CONFLICT
REF: A. STATE 89769

C. STATE 90980
1. (SBU) Deputy Pol/Econ Chief August 25 delivered Ref A and
B demarches to the Director of the Americas wing at the
Bangladesh Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), Masudur Rahman.
Rahman expressed concern about the conflict and the effect
it was having on the lives of civilians living in the
disputed region. Rahman said he would share the USG position
with relevant MFA officials, but noted it was likely the
Government of Bangladesh would keep a "low profile" on this
issue and avoid public comment. He did not make any comments
or ask any questions related to the spurious Russian claims
regarding the ceasefire agreement (Ref C).
