1. (SBU) According to Department of Foreign Affairs and
International Trade Human Rights, Gender Equality, Health,
and Population Division Senior Policy Officer Cynthia Taylor,
Canada is still considering its support for the Human Rights
Foundation's application for UN Economic and Social Council
(ECOSOC) consultative status (reftel). Taylor stated that
Canada does not, however, want to ask the ECOSOC Committee of
NGOs to review its decision if it has already conducted a
thorough review of the NGO.
2. (SBU) Action requests: 1). please advise whether the
Committee of NGOs has already conducted an in-depth review of
the Human Rights Foundation; and, 2). please advise date on
which the ECOSOC plans to review this issue.
