Econoff spoke to Abdullah Al-Musaibeh, Deputy Director for
Middle East, Arab, Islamic Countries at the Kuwait Fund for
Arab Economic Development on Tuesday, June 24. Al-Musaibeh
stated that the pledge of USD 80 million is pending approval
from the Cabinet Council and that the money could not be
disbursed without the approval from the Cabinet. He
indicated that there are "a few issues" that needed to be
worked out. Jassim Mubarak Al-Mubaraki, Director of Ministry
of Foreign Affairs Arab World Department, gave a similar
response in a telcon with EconCouns. Post will continue to
press for disbursement of pledged funds, and will report any
further substantive responses septel.
